Welcome To Lower Mt Bethel Sandt's Eddy Fire
Company.

Our History!

After World War 2 the members of the Air Raid Unit of Sandt’s Eddy Pa. decided to keep the organization together if possible. Plans were made to organize a fire company in our community. Notices for a public meeting were distributed in mail boxes in the vicinity. The first meeting was held at Holler’s Road Stand on January 25, 1946. From the Minutes; It is our good purpose here tonight to organize a fire co. To protect the community against fires and to assist with equipment which we hope to have in fighting any fires which cannot be prevented. We not only are organizing but we are here also to dedicate this company to the honor of the Sandt’s Eddy Boys, who served so well in extinguishing the worldwide fire, and especially in memory of Bob Menear who sacrificed his life in that great humane effort.

They met at Heckman’s Garage until July of 1946 when they leased Mud Run School for 3 dollars a month plus electric. In August of 1946 the Sandt’s Eddy Fire Co. no. 1 was Incorporated. In March of 1947 the first piece of equipment was purchased a portable pump for 87 dollars. In May they purchased a fog nozzle and suction hose for the pump. July of 1946 Nazareth Cement Co. donated a 1935 ford station wagon which was converted into a fire truck, without a firehouse it was stored in Heckman’s wagon shed until December when it was moved to Buss, s Garage and the first ladder was added to it.

In January of 1948 they purchased a 1925 Hahn with a 400 gpm rotary gear pump from Wind Gap Fire Co. for 400 dollars. Then in May the ladies auxiliary donated 900 dollars to buy coats, boots, Indian pumps, blankets and a first aid kit. In July Lehigh Cement Co. donated land for a firehouse the footings and steelworks was started in October with the building being under roof in December and finished in 1949. In October of 1950 they purchased a 1945 Hahn pumper from Lyons Pa. for 4,700 dollars than in November purchased 2 smoke mask and extra filter for them.

In 1954 they purchased a 1954 Ford panel truck and the 1925 Hahn Pumper needed to much repair and was of no farther use.

In May of 1957 a new Ford pick up was purchased to replace the 1935 Ford station wagon.

Thru out the years trucks and equipment was replaced with used stuff until 1970 when a new Ford pumper was purchased this was the first pumper in Northampton County with pre connected attack lines. This engine served Lower Mt. Bethel Twps. Until 1993 when a new KME pumper with a 1250 gpm pump and 1000-gal water tank was purchased.
